Before you make the LinkCodeGenerator available to your affiliates you should first check whether the software is installed and running properly. Follow the steps below to check the various parts of the LinkCodeGenerator. You must first have the affiliate program software installed to a working condition before you can check this software, if you have not already done so.

Step 1.

Login to the management area (details of which are in the section Features Explained). Upload a banner image. Select 'Display current banners' and add a new banner to the system.
Troubleshooting:-

1. The image is uploaded but is not displayed. This usually means that your images folder is in your cgi-bin, and your cgi-bin does not allow image files to be dispayed from within it. Create a new images folder outside of your cgi-bin, chmod this folder 777 (set file permissions to 'Read Write Execute Delete' on NT/2000). Enter the LinkCodeGenerator administation area and select configure variables to change the path and URL to your new images folder. Details of configuring variables are in the section 'Variable Configuration'.

Step 2.

In your web browser, visit your affiliates login form and login as an affiliate. You will need to signup as an affiliate if you have not already done so. Click the link to the LinkCodeGenerator which is usually "Get Banners!".
Troubleshooting:-

1. "Username does not exist" error when clicking the link. You have set the incorrect path to your affiliate data folder, enter the LinkCodeGenerator administation area and select configure variables to make changes. Details of configuring variables are in the section 'Variable Configuration'.
2. 404 error when clicking the link. If this is the case then you have put the incorrect url to the LinkCodeGenerator in your affiliate template page, re-visit the section "Integrating with your affiliate program".

Step 3.

Select a site, and a banner or text link and generate the link code. Click on the example banner.
Troubleshooting:-

1. 404 error when clicking the example banner. If this is the case then you have put the incorrect url to your affiliate program folder OR selected the incorrect affiliate software, enter the LinkCodeGenerator administation area and select configure variables to make changes. Details of configuring variables are in the section "Variable Configuration".
